Federal Republic of Germany Sucht den Superstar ("Germany's Search for a Superstar," familiarly known as DSDS) was the German spinoff of producer Simon Fuller's amateur telecasting case Pop Idol. Launched on the RTL meshwork in October 2002, Federal Republic of Germany Sucht den Superstar originally featured Swiss actress Michelle Hunziker and late soap opera histrion Carsten Spengemann as co-hosts, piece the panel comprised composer/producer (and Modern Talking grad) Dieter Bohlen, radiocommunication host Thomas Bug, British music diarist Shona Fraser, and erstwhile BMG Germany president Thomas M. Stein. After ratings steadily climbed passim the season, Tobias Regner stinging rival Mike Leon Grosch on the March 18, 2005, stopping point. Regner's debut single, "I Still Burn," topped the charts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, although Grosch scored a German number unmatchable of his possess with "Don't Let It Get You Down."
